This is a clinical analysis and follow up result on 894 cases of breast cancer during the 11 years, from January 1983 to December 1993
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1) The peak incidence of breast cancer was in the 5th decade(351 cases 39.2%) followed by 6th decade and 4th decade.
2) The most frequent clinical symptom was palpable mass(813 case, 96.0%)
3) The most frequent site of breast cancer was upper outer quadrant(506 cases 56.5%) followed by inner outer quadrant(18.4% (and central region(9.7%) of breast.
4) According to TNM system, there were 7 cases(0.7%) in stage 0,141 cases(15.7%) stage I, 536 cases(59.9%) stageⅡ, 189 cases(21.1%) stageⅢ, and 21 cases(2.3%) in stageⅣ
5) The most common pathologic type was infiltrating ductal carcinoma(720 cases, 80.5%)
6) Radical mastectomy was performed 68 cases(7.6%), modified radical mastectomy 752 cases (84.1%), partial mastectomy with axillary dissection 36 cases(4.0%), and simple mastectomy 27 cases(2.5%).
7) Follow up was possible in 874 cases(97.6%), and overall 5 year survival rate was 79%, 5 year survival rate was 100% in stage 0, 92% stage I 87% stageⅡ, 54% stageⅢ, and 28% in stageⅣ
8) In Univariate analysis, the overall 5-year survival rate were 90% for patients with T1, 83% for T2, 02% for T3, 43% for T4 lesion
5-year survival rate was 92% in those with no axillary metastasis, 82% in the cases with 1 to 3 positive lymph nodes, 76% in the cases with 4 to 9 positive lymph nodes and 45% in 10 more positive lymph nodes.
Patient with elevated preop tumor marker had bad prognosis. 5-year survival rate was 62% in those patients with CEA over 5.0 ng/ml, 84% in below 5.0 ng/ml.
5-year survival rate according to hormone receptor status was 94% for ER(+) PR(+) group, 84% for ER)+) PR(-), 88%ER(-) PR(+), and 73% for ER(-) group.
